Loaves and Fishes Food Drive Part 1 - September

Thanks to Belingrath neighborhood here in South Charlotte we were able to collect 191 pounds of food for Loaves and Fishes of Charlotte. How exciting is that? As we were dropping off items, someone in need was asking if we had cranberry juice, because that food bank just ran out. Luckily, a kind family from Belingrath had donated 2 containers of cranberry juice and we were able to hand that to the person directly in need before we even entered the food bank. We are continuing to work with Loaves and Fishes throughout October. We will keep everyone posted on our success.

The Mecklenburg County Community Resource Connections and our partners host a variety of events including conferences, training sessions and workshops, as well as fundraisers and other community events. It is a group of professionals in Mecklenburg county who gather together to help assist those who might fall between the cracks of care. Covenant In-Home Care is a proud supporter of this group. The CRC has just launched a new referral tool to assist families with many needs in the area. If someone calls any of the CRC supporters and has a need or question, we write up a synopsis of the need and get the right professionals in contact with the individual. How awesome is that? Way to go Charlotte!!

Covenant In-Home Care Expands Scope of Services in Charlotte, NC

Covenant In-Home Care, Charlotte’s local companion care business, is excited to announce its expansion of services in Mecklenburg and surrounding counties.

Charlotte, NC – January 10, 2010 -- After almost two years of serving families in and around Charlotte with basic companion services, adding hands-on personal care was a natural progression. In addition to their new license for In-Home Aide services, Covenant In-Home Care, a Christian based company, also offers daily devotions designed to cater to client’s spiritual needs.

As of December 2, 2010, Covenant In-Home Care obtained its License for In-Home Aide services by the Division of Health Service Regulation. Owners, Andrew Martin and Ashley Alden, wanted to better serve clients’ growing needs. Among those new services available are bathing assistance, lifting, monitoring vital signs, and other personal care services.

Christians themselves, Martin and Alden wanted to incorporate a positive spiritual component to the business by adding daily devotion as an option included in their services. “The mental and spiritual state of the elderly is so important. These devotions can be an integral step toward a complete and balanced life,” said Martin.

December was a wonderful month for us at Covenant In-Home Care. We stayed
very busy and were excited about the holidays. Thanks to our incredible caregivers
we were able to assist, and give a peace of mind to the families we work with, in a
"hustle and bustle" time of year.
Andrew and I were very excited to get to enter a Christmas Tree Decorating Contest
at Shad's Landing in North Charlotte. It is a wonderful independent living community (kind
of like a big apartment community) for retired adults. We packed our car with Christmas
cheer and headed up there to decorate. Our tree looked a little bear to me until we put on
all the decor. Our theme was "Hollywood Holidays." We decorated the tree with little framed
pictures of famous people from old Hollywood. Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Mae West, and
a few others made a cameo on our tree to bring back memories for those who live at Shad's. We
wrote famous movie quotes on ribbon in puffy paint and wrapped the tree with that and white
feather boas. Red poinsettias and silver ornaments tied in the Christmas theme.

We received an email a week or so before Christmas from sweet Joanne announcing the top three winners from the contest! ................................

AND WE WON FIRST PLACE!!!!!!!!! :) all the residents voted on a favorite tree and we won! I was so excited. Andrew and I got to go have dinner with their residents and the other winners to claim our trophy.
I have never been more overjoyed!

The year ended with a wonderful holiday, and we are very grateful for all our many blessings this year. Even Griffin was thankful for the gift of snow on Christmas day.

A little bit about us!

Andrew and I, have been in working for almost two years now building our business, Covenant In-Home Care, LLC. We have gained more experience than we could have ever imagined and have been so very blessed a long the way to work with many families in need of assistance.
   Just to let you know a little bit about us; We are both Appalachian State alumni and residents of Charlotte. Andrew grew up here in Charlotte and I have family all over the area. We are dedicated Panther fans and are very excited Armanti Edwards is on the team this year! We love our dog Griffin (in the picture) and eventually want to incorporate Dog Therapy into our business because we have seen so many lives in our business, eased by the touch of dogs and other pets. I am from Apex, NC and grew up in the triangle. We met in college, and I was blown away by Andrew's caring spirit and empathy for others. We are engaged, and are so very excited to grow with our business and are so happy to be able to start young. Our business will be around for many many many years to come! We are both Christians and our passion for serving others is what drives our business, because we believe that is what were are here for.
The reason we got into this industry is because we have both watched as our families have struggled with home care agencies caring for our own aging grandparents. We wanted to start a business that could touch lives by providing the BEST care possible! By treating each client as if they are our own family, we expect the top quality care from our Companions, because that is what everyone deserves! Andrew thoroughly trains each of our Caregivers himself to ensure that they are learning all they need to know and more. We train and test them on working with clients with Alzheimer's, Dementia, Hearing Loss, Aphasia, and Cultural Competency. Each Caregiver is screened and insured and bonded for your safety. We match each caregiver up based on the needs of the family. After all, our Caregivers become a part of the client's family. We wouldn't match someone up with a client, if we didn't see them working with one of our own grandparents/parents.
     We have been so blessed to have such a wonderful year in 2010 and look forward to what 2011 has to offer. We are going to be making a few changes to make our business even better so we are able to touch more lives. :)
